September 2022: LSC Mobile Food Ministry Trailer Acquired and in Service

Lutheran disaster responders are often found cutting fallen trees away from homes, hauling debris, mucking out, re-installing flooring, sheetrock and roofs. But what if we could show the love of Christ even earlier in a disaster by feeding people a decent hot meal?

At the end of September, 2022, LSC purchased a used food trailer to expand disaster relief services to include feeding survivors of disasters and volunteers.

Just two days after the trailer was registered, volunteers from Hope Lutheran, Wake Forest, NC used it to offer a meal and provide comfort to a hurting community after a gunman killed a Raleigh police officer and four additional neighborhood residents.
Lutheran Church Charities sent Solomon the comfort dog from Williamsburg, VA. This was an important factor in helping the community start to process and heal what had occurred.
Healing through a kind word, a sloppy joe and a cookie, and, if desired, a prayer with a trained Stephen’s Minister. Many hugs and smiles were exchanged that evening!
After receiving several donations and grants, efforts have continued to outfit the mobile food ministry trailer with the needed equipment and supplies, including installing vinyl sheet flooring that is easy to clean, e-track to keep items in place in transit, shelving and purchasing a generator.
