June 2022: LSC Volunteers Serve Hurricane Survivors in Lumberton, NC
Pastor Ed Grant (Calvary Lutheran, Charleston, SC) assembled a team of volunteers from SC, NC, VA, and MD to support residential rebuilds in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. Hurricane Florence struck a large area of the Carolinas in September 2018. The damage was great and the COVID-19 pandemic slowed government and volunteer disaster response efforts. Four years later, homes are still being rebuilt. During this one-week effort, in June 2022 the LSC team worked on two homes. The first home had been demolished and a new foundation build by previous groups of volunteers. The LSC team’s task was to install sill-plates and floor joists so that future crews could install the sub-floor and walls. The second home had been rebuilt to the point that it was ready for flooring. The LSC volunteer team laid vinyl flooring, completing a huge step in helping a family return to normal home life.
